William Joseph Twomey

William Joseph Twomey, age 86, of Trumbull, CT, formerly of California and France, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on March 23, 2023. William was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on July 5, 1936, the son of the late John Francis Twomey and Helen (Bayer).
He was a graduate of Fenwick High School, Oak Park, Illinois, the University of Notre Dame with a B.S. in engineering and a B.A. in history, and the University of Southern California with a masters in engineering. He started his aeronautical engineering career at McDonnell Douglas and then Lockheed in California. Then in 1972 moved to France to work at ONERA, the French National Aerospace Research Centre and finally moving to Stratford, CT in 1975 where he worked at Sikorsky Aircraft until he retired in 1998. He was an expert in the field of airframe vibrations having published several articles on design analysis methods for a vibrations program. After retirement he split his time between Connecticut and Paris, France.
He loved history, music, philosophy, playing the piano and enjoyed traveling. Upon graduating from college in 1959, he toured Europe and stayed in Paris for six months to study French. While in Paris he met Therese Prevost and they married there and moved to California. William was a devout Catholic who will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his wife, Therese, and their four children, Catherine (Tom) Walsh of Fairfield, CT, Philip (Cecile) Twomey of Bois le Roi, France, Paul (Aldona) Twomey of Trumbull, CT and Anne (Charles) Thompson of Southport, CT.
He is survived by his sisters, Alice Marie (Jack) Sweeney of Avalon, California, Beth (Karl) Williamson of Boulder, Colorado, his brother Philip (Jeanne) Twomey, of Clarendon Hills, Illinois, and his brother David Twomey of Chicago, Illinois, ten grandchildren, Christopher, Claire, Bluenn, Claire, Paul, Philip, Alex, Brian, Thomas and Rose.  He was predeceased by his late brother, John Twomey.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Monday, March 27, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. directly at St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St. Trumbull, CT.  Interment will be private.
