Wesley S. Gregory

Wesley Samuel Gregory, age 85, passed away February 15, 2021 in Connecticut Hospice, after a brief battle with cancer. Wes was born in Bridgeport on August 28, 1935 to the late Roy and Elizabeth Babinski Gregory. He proudly graduated from Fairfield Prep and received both BS and MA degrees from Fairfield University where he was a member of the basketball and baseball teams. He  served in the Connecticut Army National Guard. Wes was a teacher in the Bridgeport Public Schools for over 35 years, spending most of his years at East Side Middle School and Central High School. After his retirement, Wes spent the rest of his life working for Miller Nissan in Fairfield. He lived in Trumbull for 30 years before moving to Monroe.  

A kind, gentle man, Wes would talk to anyone, brought donuts to his family on Sunday mornings, and always had a bone for the family dogs on his daily visits.  An avid sports fan, Wes was a loyal New York Mets and New York Giants fan. He devoted many happy evenings watching Fairfield University basketball games but spending time at his grandchildren's practices and games brought him the greatest joy.  Proudly smiling, "Poppy" could always be seen on the sidelines, along the fences or in the stands as their biggest supporter.  

Survivors include his wife Mary Anne Franko Gregory, three devoted children, Beth Yerina and her husband Patrick of Trumbull, Dorothy Miller of Shelton and Dan Gregory and his wife Cathy of Sandy Hook, his sister Barbara Ennis of Guilford, seven cherished and beloved grandchildren, Ryan (Kaitlyn) and Michael (Jacqueline) Yerina; Casey and Shane Miller; Brian, Brendan and Catie Gregory plus many nieces, nephews and lifelong friends. He was predeceased by half siblings Roy "Buddy" Gregory, Dorothy Brown, and Alice Eastman. We would like to heartfully thank his staff at Hospice for the compassionate care they provided to our dad. 

Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral mass on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Road, Trumbull. Inurnment to follow in Nichols Village Cemetery. Friends are invited to attend a walk-through wake on Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Masks are required. Please practice social distancing guidelines and exit the facility immediately after paying your respects to allow everyone to attend.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions may be made in Wesley's memory to the Fairfield University Men's Basketball program.
