Thomas James Masterson

Thomas James Masterson died peacefully the morning of March 20, 2021 in Beaufort, South Carolina, surrounded by his family.

     Thomas was born 22 May 1931 in the Bronx and raised in Eastchester, New York. He graduated from Iona Preparatory School in New Rochelle, New York and attended Fordham University before joining the class of 1956 at the United States Military Academy West Point.

     After spending 11 years serving his country, Tom moved onto a successful 30-year business career in the field of employee benefits. He retired from Proctor & Gamble in 1992 and spent his retirement living in Beaufort, South Carolina starting in 1997.

     He met the love of his life and future wife Patricia on a blind date during his 2nd year at West Point. Tom and Patricia were married in September 1957. They eventually moved to Bergen County, New Jersey to raise their children before settling into life in Trumbull, Connecticut. They were married 39 years before Patricia’s passing in 1996. Tom is survived by 4 children (Tom, Patty, Brian & Jim), 5 grandchildren (Mark, Alex & Brian Pollard and Emma & Olivia Masterson) along with many nieces, nephews and friends.

     The hallmark of Tom’s life was his faith in the Lord and his family. A dedicated husband and father, Tom loved being with his family. Whether it was attending church services, doing lawn work or just grilling some burgers, Tom loved sharing every moment with his family. A natural storyteller, he delighted his children with tales of his childhood in depression-era New York, life as a cadet at West Point and as an Army officer, and his international business travels.

     Tom was truly one of the good guys, a man of faith, a soldier, a professional, a husband and a father. He will always be loved and sorely missed. 

     Funeral services will take place on Tuesday March 30, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church 220 Shelton Rd. Trumbull,  or view via livestream at stcathtrumbull.com. Interment will follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
