Susan Sonia Trapasso

Susan Sonia Nazaretian Trapasso died August 27, 2025 after bravely facing a four-year battle with cancer, inspiring her family, health care team, and all with whom she came in contact. Susan was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She was born February 25, 1934 in Athens Greece, the daughter of Felice Avakian. At the age of 14, she took the lead in arranging her and Felice’s journey to the United States, settling in Bridgeport, just around the corner from the original Holy Ascension Armenian Church building on Barnum Avenue. She attended Warren Harding High School, where she met Ralph Trapasso, who became the love of her life with a marriage that lasted 69 years. As Ralph faced Alzheimer’s, she devoted herself to his care. Her last loving act was cleaning his hearing aids and positioning them properly in his ears. Susan will be remembered for her service to this Armenian community, her strong work ethic, her elegant style, the Christmas dinners she prepared for Ralph’s large Italian- American family, and her welcoming home. She took deep joy in her grandchildren Mikel and Sonia, hosting them in the summer and various vacations throughout the year, embracing their friends (and eventual spouses), and showing them how to prepare Armenian food.

Susan is survived by her husband Ralph, her daughter Beatrice and son-in-law Charles Dermer, her son Douglas, her granddaughter Sonia and husband Charles Perla, and her grandson Mikel and wife Sarah Yang Dermer.

Visitation Hour, Wake Service and Funeral Service will take place on Wednesday, September 3, 2025 at the Armenian Church of the Holy Ascension; 1460 Huntington Turnpike Trumbull, CT 06611. The schedule is as follows:
- Visitation hour at the church 9:00-10:00 am
- Wake Service at 10:00 am followed by the church Funeral Service and Eulogy
- Interment at St. John's Cemetery in Monroe, CT; 500 Moose Hill Rd.
- Followed by the Memorial Luncheon in the church hall.
