Rose McAndrews Obituary

Rose K. McAndrews, formerly of Trumbull, CT passed away peacefully in Orange, CT at the age of 88, on April 27, 2026.

Born on September 22,1937 in Bridgeport, CT, Rose is survived by her children, Joanne McAndrews (Larry Eisenman) of St. Louis, MO; Mary McAndrews of Woodbridge, CT; Amy McAndrews (Tim Looney) of Boston, MA; Meg Cowden (John) of Orono, MN; and Beth Seppala (Brian) of Fraser, CO; grandchildren Sarah Eisenman of Chicago, IL; Katie Eisenman of Evanston, IL; Jonah Cowden of Portland, OR; Ezra Cowden of Orono, MN; Chloe and Reid Seppala of Fraser, CO; and two step grandchildren, Caitlin and Michael Looney of Tyngsboro, MA. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Martin J. McAndrews, Jr. in 2021; her parents, Ernest and Anna nee Horvath Kender; and siblings Anna Frances DeAcutis, Lillian St. George, and Ernest Kender, Jr.

Rose graduated from St. Joseph Hill Academy in Staten Island, NY in 1955 and St. Francis Hospital School of Nursing in Trenton, NJ in 1960. She served as a Lieutenant Junior Grade in the Navy Nurse Corps from August 1963 to August 1965 at the U.S. Naval Hospital in Great Lakes, IL and was very proud of her service. She dedicated her life being a mother to her “Little Women”, ever present and steady throughout the years. Baking and cooking were her superpowers, and food was her love language. She was known for her delicious loaves of pumpkin bread, Irish soda bread, zucchini bread, and cookies that she generously shared with family, neighbors, friends, and others in the community. Her care providers and their office staff may have become her most fervent baking fans, as she rarely attended appointments empty-handed. She was renowned for her frequent care packages while her daughters were in college always containing her famous chocolate chip cookies in coffee tins, packed in popcorn. At Christmastime, she baked hundreds of cookies, distributing festive platters as gifts to grateful recipients. She was also a talented seamstress and sewed many Halloween costumes, curtains, table linens, and most memorably, aprons for every occasion. A lifelong Girl Scout, she co-led the Junior Girl Scout troop at St. Catherine of Siena School for 10 years and was the mother of 5 Girl Scouts and grandmother of 2. She was an active choir member at St. Catherine of Siena parish, and enjoyed reading, counted cross stitch, and embroidery. She loved spending time with Marty and other family members at the family home on Shelter Island, NY. She will be remembered in the hearts and bellies of all the lives she touched.

The family would like to recognize Carly Cartisano and Lisa Krauss of Growing Options and the dedicated and loving care provided by Eteri Gelkhviidze and Ana Tchlikadze and the staff at Maplewood at Orange in Rose’s final years.
