Roger O'Hara McGovern

Roger O'Hara McGovern, age 83, of Trumbull, CT, passed away September 16, 2024 in his home. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late Helen (nee Deegan) and James Lawrence McGovern, Jr.. He spent the majority of his life in Trumbull. He was in the first class of Middlebrook School then went on to Peekskill Military Academy, Croydon Hall and graduated  from Saint Anselm's. He was an altar boy at Saint Theresa's Church. He was on the Trumbull Recreation Board for 30 years and was also named Chairman of Recreation. He was a retired District Sales Manager for General Motors where he worked for over 35 years.

He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus, lifetime member of the Hundred Club of Connecticut and lifetime member of the Fayerweather Yacht Club. He was also retired police commissioner for the Trumbull Police Commission in 2013.

On February 20, 2016, the Town of Trumbull named it Roger McGovern day

Roger joined and served within the United States Army as an equipment mechanic and landing craft pilot.

Roger has followed in the footsteps of his father who was involved in the Town of Trumbull community by supporting the original building of St. Theresa church and serving as a member of the town’s Planning and Zoning board, Town of Trumbull Judge, Town of Trumbull Police Commissioner and Town of Trumbull Economic Development Commission.


He was predeceased by his beloved wife Noreen (Walsh) McGovern and his brothers James L. (Peter) McGovern III and Thomas Paul McGovern.

He is survived by his devoted daughters Kara McGovern and Kerry McGovern and her husband Sergio, three brothers Frank David McGovern and his wife Karen, Brian Boru McGovern and his wife Katherine, and Patrick Michael McGovern, sister-in-law Judith Walsh and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, September 24, 2024 at 11:00 a.m.  at St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St. Trumbull for a mass of Christian Burial.  Interment to follow in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT.  Friends may pay their respects on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT.
