Robert M. Keane age 85, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully, September 15, 2021 in his home surrounded by family. Mr. Keane was born in Queens, NY. He was the son and oldest child of Robert Keane and Elizabeth Donnelly Keane. Robert was a longtime Trumbull resident having moved from New York in 1968. Mr. Keane attended Archbishop Stepinac High School in White Plains NY where he graduated with honors. He was awarded a full scholarship to Fordham University, the result of winning the Archdiocese of New York Science Fair in 1955. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 1959.
Robert retired from a long career in sales and marketing in the chemical industry, including working for FMC and W.R. Grace in New York. Later in his career, he left the chemical business to become an executive for Dowling’s Fleet Service in Mount Vernon, New York. He had a passion for golf and was a longtime member of Highland Golf Club in Shelton CT where he also served on the Board of Governors. Two holes in one in the summer of 2008 was a great highlight of his golfing career. Robert enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events including many trips to Florida to watch college baseball games. He was also a devoted Yankee fan who enjoyed attending games at Yankee Stadium. He loved spending summer days enjoying boating and fishing on the Long Island Sound and taking his boat to many seaside locations in New England and New York with his family. Robert served on the Town Park Commission in Trumbull for many years fostering the preservation of the Trumbull parks. He was an Eagle Scout and continued his interest in scouting by serving as a Scout Master for Troop 261 in Trumbull. Robert was also an avid reader who enjoyed reading about many topics including golf instruction, history, and the New York Times.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Nina (Orsenigo) Keane; three devoted sons, Robert M. Keane Jr. and his wife Laura, Thomas Keane and his wife Marie and James Keane and his wife Barbara; loving sister Noreen Hendley and her husband Clark; seven cherished grandchildren Maxx, Chelsea, Samantha, Christoffer, and Sebastian Keane and Andrew and Alison Mailloux, his brother-in-law Albert Fotrell and several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his sister, Sheila Fotrell.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. directly at St. Stephen's Church, 6948 Main St., Trumbull, CT. Interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Trumbull, CT. Friends and family may pay their respects on Monday from 4-7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT. (Masks are required).
