Richard “Dick” Kevin Ennis, 84, of Trumbull, Connecticut, passed away peacefully at home on January 5. Born October 27, 1939 in Manhattan, New York, he was the son of Richard Donald Ennis and Margaret Ethna Burke. Richard graduated from SUNY Maritime College at Fort Schuyler in 1961 with a degree in Marine Engineering. He served for twenty years, retiring as Commander, as part of the United States Naval Construction Battalion, better known as the Navy Seabees. For over forty years, he successfully ran his own business selling and installing radiant heating equipment throughout the Tri-State area. He loved the sea and the Long Island Sound. He was also proud of his Irish heritage and played the bodhran drum in the Shamrogues traditional Irish music group at the Gaelic-American Club. He was the beloved husband of Alice Ennis and devoted father to Keith Ennis, Carolyn Chapman and Sean Ennis. In addition, he is survived by his son-in-law Scott Chapman, daughter-in-law Louise Du Toit, and granddaughter Sailor Ennis. A memorial service will be held in the Spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to SUNY Maritime College, payable to "SUNY Maritime Foundation," 6 Pennyfield Avenue, Throggs Neck, New York 10465 or to the "School of Engineering Dean’s Fund" at www.sunymaritime.edu/donate-now. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on April 20th at 2:00 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Friends may greet the family from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service.
