Piero A. Marini, age 91, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2025. He was born in 1934 in Legnano, Italy to the late Ettore and Elisa Marini. His early years were shaped by the hardships of war and instilled a sense of perseverance and frugality that would carry him throughout his life.
He started his work life as a draftsman at Franco Tosi in Legnano and later moved to Foster Wheeler in Milan. In 1967, with bravery and optimism, he uprooted his young family and moved to the United States. He arrived with little money and unable to speak English, but with an abundance of determination.
He built a successful career at Crawford & Russell, an engineering company, providing for his family and embracing every opportunity that came his way. Over the years, he moved more than twenty times, living across the United States and Europe.
At the age of 51, he underwent a liver transplant and became one of the oldest living transplant survivors. He retired from the engineering field, and in 1985 surprisingly, decided to purchase a restaurant in Stamford. The hospitality industry suited his social nature and his many customers adored him. His wife and children worked alongside him.
Life was good, but there was one thing missing … grandchildren. His children obliged by delivering a grandchild per year between 1996 and 2000. He loved spending time with them teaching the boys about soccer, Ferrari and his Italian heritage. In 2014 he took his son and grandsons on an unforgettable trip to Italy.
Piero shared a special bond with his granddaughter, Chelsea. In fact, his last purposeful act before he died was to reach out to her with a caress.
The love of his life was his wife, Augusta, who he met as a teenager and whom he passionately pursued. They traveled the world together during their 63 years of marriage. His hobbies included ballroom dancing, rooting for his favorite soccer team, A.C. Milan, and playing cards.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Augusta Caloni Marini and his sister Nilde Mustoni.
Survivors include his children Angelo Marini and Monica Coenraads, their respective spouses, Renia and Pieter, his cherished grandchildren Chelsea, Matthew, Alex, Ben and Tyler and great granddaughter, Aspen.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull, and at 11:00 a.m. at St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Road, Trumbull. Entombment to follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum.
