Peter M. Ostenby, age 60, of Trumbull, CT, passed away on October 18, 2024, in CT Hospice in Branford. He was a proud Minnesotan and the son of the late Vernon and Marjorie Ostenby.
Raised in St. Paul, he experienced the quintessential Minnesota childhood, with many trips “up North” to the cabin, pond hockey games, and loyalty to Minnesota sports (even when they lost).
Peter had an insatiable thirst for knowledge. He eagerly studied philosophy, economics, and history, earning a Master’s degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and an MBA at the University of St. Thomas in Houston, Texas.
It was at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill that he met the love of his life, Kathleen. They married in Fairfield, CT, in 1990 and went on to have three daughters: Caitlin, Megan, and Shannon. After raising “the girls” in St. Paul, they moved to CT in 2017. Peter loved taking advantage of the close proximity to New York City, attending many Broadway shows and becoming a member of the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
A lifelong learner, he was happiest when surrounded by family, with a thick book of his latest interest nearby. He was a strong advocate for the importance of libraries and loved utilizing inter-library loans.
His numerous passions included learning multiple languages, sketching, gardening, and bird watching, which all reflected his zeal for life.
Peter was a man of devout faith, intellect, and empathy, and he left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was quick to find humor in any situation and to bring laughter to all.
He faced his medical sufferings with grace, dignity, courage, and unwavering faith. He will be deeply missed.
Peter is survived by his beloved wife, Kathleen (Monahan); three devoted daughters, Caitlin Reid-Francisco (Philip), Megan Ostenby, and Shannon Ostenby; along with several nieces and nephews.
His family would like to thank the medical teams at Yale New Haven Health and the Connecticut Hospice Center for providing compassionate care for Peter.
Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Friday at 11:00 a.m. St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St Trumbull. Interment to follow in Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield, CT. Friends and family may pay their respects on Thursday from 4-7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT.
