Peter Thomas Hristov Sr.

Peter T. Hristov, age 89, of Bridgeport, passed away October 30, 2023, at home. Mr. Hristov was born in Bitola, Republic of North Macedonia (formerly a republic of Yugoslavia), where he grew up playing soccer and developed a lifelong love of all sports. He immigrated to the United States in the late 1950s, traveling across the Atlantic via the French ocean liner Liberté. He attended night classes to learn English and there he met and fell in love with Alice, who had recently immigrated from the Azores. He proposed to her after just one date, a movie theater viewing of PT-109. They married in November 1964, and embarked on a road-trip honeymoon through Elizabeth, New Jersey, up to Niagara Falls, and finally ending in New York City. They settled into Bridgeport and stayed lifelong residents, where they raised four children. Peter continued pursuing his love of soccer, participating in local leagues and spending many a weekend playing soccer with his children in Beardsley Park. He later took up bowling and golf as lifetime hobbies and was an avid and loyal Mets fan, delighting in the opportunities that he was able to catch a live game. He was an ardent supporter of his son and daughter-in-law’s travel volleyball teams, cheering them from the stands whenever possible. His grandchildren fondly remember him as the master of the claw machine. An unofficial cat dad to generations of neighborhood strays, his family jokingly called him the dog whisperer for his uncanny ability to instinctively connect with all canines. He enjoyed dining out and especially desserts, splitting decadent concoctions with a daughter-in-law and embarking on many trips into New York City with his daughter for chocolate and pastry adventures. In his later years, he found much comfort and joy amongst friends at the Baldwin Center in Stratford.
 He was predeceased by his beloved wife of nearly 50 years, Alice, and is survived by his four children, Michael (Arlene) Hristov of Guilford, Peter (Susan) Hristov, Jr. of Vinton, VA, Anne Hristov of Revere, MA, and John (Amanda) Hristov of Charlotte, NC; five grandchildren, Kristina, Melinda, Joshua, Rebecca and Jessica; two great grandchildren, Isabel and Niko, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Sunday, November 5, 2023 at 2:30 p.m. directly at Holy Ghost Orthodox Church, 1510 East Main Street, Bridgeport, CT 06608. Burial will be held on Monday, Nov. 6, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Lakeview Cemetery, 885 Boston Ave. Bridgeport, CT. Friends and family may pay their respects on Saturday, November 4, 2023 from 2-5 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT.

 In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made in his memory to The Baldwin Center, 1000 West Broad Street, Stratford, CT 06615 with a note in the memo line, "In Memory of Peter Hristov"
