Navin Sawhney

Navin Sawhney, age 69, of Trumbull, CT, beloved husband of Suzanne Koeln Sawhney (40 years married) lost his six-year battle with cancer on May 23, 2024. He passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family. 

Navin was born on December 22, 1954, in New Delhi, India to the late Brahm Dutt Sawhney and Billa (Shakuntla) Anand Sawhney. He immigrated to the U.S. in 1978 to attend the University of Bridgeport’s MBA program as an exchange student after completing his LL.B. in Corporate Law from Delhi University. He lived with several local, host families in Stratford and Fairfield, CT before moving to Queens, NY for work, and eventually became a U.S. citizen in 1989.

His 40+ year career in Travel and Cruise began at Holland America Cruise Line, where he met Suzanne, and served as Marketing Planning Manager. He then ascended to SVP of Sales and Marketing at Cunard Cruise Line, where he spearheaded global marketing initiatives for over 13 years. Navin joined Tauck World Discovery as SVP of Sales and Marketing in 2006. In 2014, he brought his international expertise to PONANT Yacht Cruises & Expeditions, serving as their CEO, Americas. There, he played a pivotal role in establishing the company as a leader in Expedition cruising by developing new customer experiences and leading product launches.

Navin was a pillar of wisdom, strength and generosity for his family and friends no matter the circumstance. Ever the storyteller, he would weave his tales of travel abroad, memorable meals, and clever quips in a charismatic way. He loved good music, enjoyed a well-prepared meal, and was never shy with an extra glass of fine wine.

In addition to his wife he is survived by his devoted daughters, Tara (Alison) and Hannah (Ryan), two siblings, Nita (Mohan) Varma and Sarita (late Shiv) Kapuria, cherished granddaughter, Zoe, several nieces and nephews, and several grandnephews, and a grandniece.

The viewing will be open to the public on Friday, May, 31, 2024, from 10 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT.

 A private funeral will be held for family and close friends on Saturday, June 1, 2024.
