Nancy Harvey Fettig

It is with great sadness that we mourn the passing of Nancy Harvey Fettig, age 85, who died peacefully on November 15, 2023.  She was born on January 4,1938 to the late William and Nan Harvey in Bridgeport, where she was raised, however Nancy spent much of her adult life in Trumbull, CT.

She is survived by her devoted daughters Nan Swan, Eva Fettig-Rusconi (Jim), Claire Muldoon and Michaela Kotos (Tim); 11 cherished grandchildren, Madeline, Michael, Abigail, Jackson, Emma, Lindsey, Dylan, Matthew, Leah, Alexandra and Noah; along with two nieces and several nephews.  She was predeceased by her beloved husband of 50 years, Michael P. Fettig.  In addition to her husband she was predeceased by her sisters Barbara McGuire and Ruth Liptak and her brother Thomas Harvey.

Nancy received her Bachelor's and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Bridgeport and a second Master's Degree in Mathematics from Southern Connecticut State University.  After spending years at home raising her children, she dedicated her professional career to education, touching the lives of many children along the way.

Nancy was somewhat of a mathematical genius, delighting in puzzles of all kinds. At any given moment when you entered Nancy's home there was a jigsaw puzzle on the dining room table.  Even after her Alzheimer's diagnosis, she continued to stump the staff at her assisted living facility by being able to successfully complete Sudoku puzzles and other brain teasers daily.  She was also a feminist before it was en vogue bucking the gender norms of the 1970's; Nancy's husband cooked dinner regularly and prepared school lunches for their daughters while Nancy managed the checkbook and the family finances.  Nancy was a committed news nerd who considered Jim Lehrer a trusted friend because he graced her living room with PBS NewsHour for decades and she consulted Consumer Reports for any purchase (her CR library spanned decades).

Family and friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday, November 21, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at Nichols United Methodist Church, 35 Shelton Rd. Trumbull, CT with the Reverend Albert Hahn officiating. Interment to follow in Nichols Village Cemetery.
