Muriel Falanga Obituary

Muriel J. Falanga, age 92, of Shelton, passed awayon April 23, 2022. "Chickie" was born in Bridgeport, CT, daughter of the late Lester and Albertina Finch. She was a retired food service manager for the Trumbull Public Schools.Raised in Black Rock, she was a graduate of Bassick High School, worked as an office secretary and after marriage , moved to first  Deerfield and then Wisteria Drives in Trumbull where she raised her family for the next 30 years. In later years she often visited St. Mary's By the Sea with childhood friends. 

Always a cheerful person, Chickie surrounded herself with people and activities.  She was the consummate hostess who loved entertaining . She liked cooking for, conversing with, and laughing wth her guests.Cooking and caring for her family, friends, and the school children was an expression of her love. A devoted sports fan, she loyally cheered for the Boston Red Sox, the New England Patriots, her college teams, and always the underdog. Chickie loved traveling with her husband Frank, especially years of lake vacations throughout New England with the entire Finch Clan, most notably, Lake Oxoboxo in CT and later, Lake Winnipesaukee. Throughout the years she relished attending the activities of the grand and great-grandkids: concerts, recitals, plays, sacraments,sporting events, and graduations. In her final "Home Sweet Home" at Wesley Heights, where she re-christened herself "Muriel" to her new and dear friends, she enjoyed daily activities, including Bingo, meals, and artistic presentations. Muriel was also a lifelong faithful Catholic,a member of St. Theresa for over 30 years and parishioner of her beloved St, Margaret Mary Parish.
Muriel was predeceased by her loving husband Frank Falanga and their precious son Francis X. Falanga, as well as her four brothers , Bob, Bill, Ray, and Jack Finch.
She is survived by her four devoted children, Jacqueline Leo and her husband Pat of Monroe, Pamela Moore and her husband Stephen of Milford, Timothy Falanga and his wife Elisa,  and Laura Wilson and her husband Thomas of Shelton; her daughter-in-law Liz Petrocelli Falanga of Milford; her loving  brother, Donald Finch and his wife Paula; 15 cherished grandchildren: Amanda Leo, Aaron Leo and his wife Amy, Tara Petrocelli, Maggie Kollar and her husband John, Tyler Falanga, Patrick Moore, Taylor Falanga, Sean Wilson, Cameron Yellin-Falanga, Jeffrey Wilson, Clara Moore, Colleen Wilson, Jake Falanga, Juliana Falanga, and Kayla Falanga; two beloved great grandchildren John Leo and Giulia Leo, and many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at 10:00 AM at St. Margaret Mary, 50 Donovan Lane Shelton, CT. Burial will follow directly at Gate of Heaven Cemetery.
Friends and family may pay their respects on Friday, April 29 from 4 – 7 PM at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull, CT 06611.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Bridgeport Fallen Firefighters Foundation  at P.O. Box 0522, Bridgeport ,CT  06601-0522.
