Miriam Tierney, born on November 23, 1930 in the Bronx to the late Daniel and Sarah Costello, passed away on November 16 with her family by her side. She lived at Elim Park in Cheshire, CT and formerly in Stratford and Trumbull where she raised her family.
She was a strong Irish, Catholic woman who will be remembered for her funny, blunt one-liners, and her incredible ability to master any game that she played, especially a good poker game. She loved playing any and all games with her grandchildren whom she adored.
Her beloved late husband Bob called her “Mim” and they delighted in playing golf together. She was very adventurous, and enjoyed bowling, fishing, and camping and was an avid reader. She was a homemaker and cherished entertaining for big family gatherings. She worked for Northwest Airlines as a stewardess and also at ITT and People’s Bank. She also volunteered at the soup kitchen and was a reading tutor.
She was pre-deceased by her husband Robert E. Tierney and her siblings Jack Costello, Joan Piccininni, Kitty Zarlengo and Daniel Costello. Survivors include her four devoted children Kathy and husband Ray Gallagher, Carolyn and husband Bill Bourque, Bob and wife Betty Tierney and Elizabeth and husband Joe Greenwood; and her grandchildren Daniel, Connor and Lindsey Gallagher; Lauren, Audrey and Matthew Bourque; Ryan and Dylan Tierney; Ellen, Tim and Rob Greenwood; and great-grandchildren Hunter and Kayden Tierney; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Theresa Church, 5301 Main St, Trumbull on Saturday November 22 at 10:30 am. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery,1056 Daniels Farm Rd. Trumbull. Miriam’s family will receive visitors at Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull on Friday, November 21, from 4 to 7 pm.
