Mary Lu (Sinchak) Nickols

Mary L. (Sinchak) Nickols, age 82, of Bridgeport, passed away December 28, 2021 at Bridgeport Hospital surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Nickols was born in Stratford, CT to the late John and Cecelia (Barta) Sinchak.

She was a graduate of Bassick High School, Bridgeport Hospital School of Nursing and the University of Bridgeport. She was a Registered Nurse and dedicated the last 40 years of her career to geriatric care. 

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ernest L. Nickols Sr. and three brothers and two sisters.

Survivors include her devoted children Ernest L. Nickols Jr., MaryLu and her husband, Jerome E. Gaughan III, and Attorney Theresa Rose DeGray and her husband, Robert; five loving grandchildren Tony, Craig, Brett, Samantha and Chase; four cherished great-grandchildren Riley, Tristan, Jasper and Parker; one sister, Cecelia Sinchak Craft and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was a beloved mother, grandmother, aunt, friend and “Diamond.” 

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Monday, January 3, 2022 at 10:30 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull and at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Grace Church, Second Hill Lane Stratford, CT. Christian burial and interment in Long Hill Cemetery, Trumbull, CT.

Friends may call on Monday from 9:00-10:30 a.m. at the funeral home.

Masks are required.

The family extends their deepest gratitude to the entire staff of Bridgeport Hospital and VITAS Hospice, and gives special thanks to Mrs. Nickols’ nephew, Michael Connors, for all of his love, care and support over the last few years.
