Mary Beth Smith Obituary

Mary Elizabeth (Mary Beth) Lotze Smith, age 73, of Olathe, Kansas, passed away June 4, 2023. She was born in Lahore, Pakistan, daughter of the late Irvin and Marion Lotze. She was the beloved wife of over 50 years of Kirk Smith. She is survived by her daughters Rachel Floreen and her husband Matthew, and Erin Aiken and her husband Brian; four brothers Donald Lotze and his wife Joan, Kenneth Lotze and his wife Jerri, Robert Lotze and his wife Geri and John Lotze and his wife Betsy; four cherished grandchildren Shiloh and Beckett Aiken and Abigail and Naomi Floreen and a host of nieces and nephews.

Initially trained as a registered nurse, Mary Beth dedicated herself to the care and well-being of others. However, when her children were born, she embraced the role of a home-maker, pouring her love and attention into raising her daughters. Once her daughters had grown, Mary Beth pursued her passion for helping others in a different capacity, by pursuing her Master of Arts in Biblical Counseling. She used what she had learned to serve in three churches over a 20 year period, offering women support and the hope of God’s Word.

Mary Beth was known for her love of quilting, gracious hospitality, deep devotion to her heavenly Father, and her dedication to sharing His love and truth with others.

Through her quilting, she shared her creativity and love with countless friends and family. Mary Beth enjoyed having people in their home and was a gracious and warm hostess. She had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcomed and loved. Her home was a gathering place for friends and family, with lots of laughter and good food. Mary Beth's hospitality was a reflection of her generous spirit and her desire to show others the love of God. Her faith in her Savior was the cornerstone of her life and she loved Him deeply, faithfully studying and memorizing His Word. Mary Beth's unwavering faith was an inspiration to all who knew her, and her gentle guidance and counseling provided comfort and help to women in need. She used her gifts and education to serve in sharing God's love and truth with others.

Mary Beth's memory will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all the many lives she touched through her quilting, hospitality, and ministry. Her legacy of love, faith, and selflessness will continue to inspire others to live sacrificially and pursue the glory of God.
