Mary Sorge Obituary

Mary Frances (Lavin) Sorge, age 90, of Shelton, CT entered into eternal rest on May 3, 2025. She was born in French Park, County Roscommon, Ireland on December 15, 1934 to the late Bernard and Anne Marie Lavin.

Mary arrived in America when she was 3 years old and grew up with her family in Bridgeport, Connecticut where she graduated from Warren Harding High School. She spent many years as a stay at home mom, then worked at Duchess where she was an excellent role model to many young adults. She was a true blessing to her children, always providing unconditional love, support and guidance, and she had a beautiful way of making them all feel like her favorite. She had a deep faith, a calming presence and always looked on the bright side of life. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She was always there for her grandchildren attending school events and cheering them on at their sporting events. She was so proud of them all. She enjoyed knitting and made many beautiful Irish knit blankets for her family and friends. She was a pinochle partner to many and enjoyed playing Bocce at Aspetuck Village where she made many wonderful friends. Mary’s family fondly referred to her as “on the go gal” because she was always willing to go at a moments notice. She will be greatly missed and forever loved.

She is survived by her seven children, Janice Miko, Joseph M. Sorge, Jr., David J. Sorge and his wife Quinghui, Nancy Kerma, Marianne Stachelczyk and her husband Steve, Annemarie Constantine and her former husband John, and Karen Sorge, and her loving grandchildren, Michael, Elizabeth, Johnny, Joe, David, Gregory, Jake, Ryan, Jade and Mia and great granddaughter, Isabella. She is also survived by her two brothers, Bernard Lavin and his wife Laura, and Kevin Lavin, as well as her sister in-laws, Mary Anne Lavin and Maria Currea Lavin, many nieces and nephews, and her lifelong friend Mary Theresa DeStefano.

She was predeceased by her siblings and their spouses, infant brother Joseph Lavin, Maureen Sheridan (Joe Sheridan), Shaun Lavin, Margaret (Patty) Puglia (Patrick Puglia), Jerry Lavin (Sue Lavin), and William Lavin, her son-in-law Dennis A. Miko, the father of her children, Joseph M. Sorge, Sr. and her dear friend, Charlotte Riccio.
