Marcel Claude Arthur Bernier

Marcel Claude Arthur Bernier, age 89, of Stratford, CT, passed away June 13, 2025.

He was born in Paris, France to the late Marcel and Marcelle Bernier.

Survivors Include his beloved wife Mary Ann, They were married for 62 years and shared a life filled with love, partnership, and devotion.  He was the devoted father of Noelle and her husband Steve of East Haddam, Tara and her husband Jon of Cincinnati.  He was the proud and playful grandfather of Reece and Josh.  Very dear to him was his nephew Doug and his wife Marybeth and their children Alicia, Kelly and DJ.  Also his beloved niece Danielle, nephew Eric and nephew Gilles. Held close to his heart was his sister-in-law Susan and her daughters Jennifer and Kerry.  Also very dear to him was his great nieces and nephews-Catherine, Devon, Xander, and Christian.  

He was predeceased by his siblings, Jacqueline, Jacques, Nicole and Micheline.  

Marcel’s life was guided through his courage, resilience, and unwavering spirit.   He escaped Nazi occupied France with some siblings in pursuit of freedom and a better life.  An ongoing goal throughout his life was to communicate the first hand experiences of WW2 for us to appreciate freedom and fight back against human oppression.  Once of age, he enlisted in the army to repay a debt he felt he owed to our country.  Following his service he earned a bachelor’s degree from University of Delaware and worked for 50 years as a research chemist in textiles, food industry, pharmaceuticals, and the beauty industry.  In his free time before and after retirement he enjoyed fixing things, gardening, soccer, tennis, golf, and stamp collecting.  He was a charming man eager to engage in conversation and enjoyed the company of others, he always gave sound advice and had a great sense of humor.  Everyone he met was an opportunity to talk and learn.  Although Marcel was a loyal US citizen, he was fiercely proud of his French heritage.  Marcel meant so much to so many and will be missed tremendously.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, June 19, 2025 from 4-7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull CT. His funeral service will be held on Friday, June 20, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. directly at St. James Church, 2070 Main St. Stratford, CT. Burial will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association (www.heart.org).
