Kathryn (Schmidlin) Haigh, age 92, of Stratford, CT, passed away peacefully in St. Mary’s Hospital on March 18, 2021. Kathryn was born in Bridgeport, CT, to the late William and Freda Schmidlin. A graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport, CT, she was gifted academically, and was devoted to the community life of the school. Kathryn graduated from Penn State’s Dental Hygiene School in the 40’s.
Family and faith were of Utmost importance. Kathryn was a very active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Fairfield, CT.
She was the longest Heritage member, joining the church in 1942. She volunteered as a leader in the Vacation Summer Bible School, was especially active in the Women's Association and the Sewing Ladies of FPC. She supported annual church activities, including the Strawberry Festival, the hand bells choir and the Terians Group and was always in the leadership of Presby Panorama serving as an elder of the church. She was very involved in parents' groups -- including the Thomas Hooker School.
Kathryn was predeceased by her beloved husband Richard J. Haigh Sr. and her son-in-law William E. Carroll Jr.
Survivors include her son, Richard J. Haigh Jr. and his wife, Linda of Orange, her daughter, Karen Carroll-Kochiss and her husband, Kyle of Stratford, five loving grandchildren, Ryan Haigh and his wife Corinne, Brittany and her husband Patrick Kelly, Richard J. Haigh III, Allison Carroll and Kaitlin Carroll, and four cherished great grandchildren Ava, Connor, and Lily Kelly and Mason Haigh.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 2475 Easton Turnpike with the Reverend Gregory Penza officiating. Interment in Park Cemetery, Bridgeport, CT. Friends may call on Monday from 4-6 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT. Memorial contributions may be made to the First Presbyterian Church. The family extends their gratitude to the VITAS Hospice at St Mary’s Hospital and the Visiting Angels for their care and concern.
