John P. Miller Jr. Obituary

John P. Miller Jr., age 81, of Shelton, CT passed away surrounded by his loving family on July 24, 2021. His lengthy illness was fought with courage and dignity. He was born in Bronx, NY to John P. and Florence (Vollers) Miller. John was raised in Yorktown Heights, NY and graduated from Yorktown High School, class of 1957. He was a proud United States Army Veteran who served his country as a member of the Postwar Occupation Army stationed in West Germany. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, John met and married the love of his life, his beautiful wife, Sandra. They settled in New York, started their family and he began his career in the plumbing and mechanical industry. They relocated to Florida where one highlight of his professional life included working on the construction of the Contemporary Hotel in Walt Disney World. His 40 years of experience culminated in his acceptance of the position as a worldwide facilities manager for ITT Corporation. This brought him to Connecticut where his first project was the construction and implementation of ITT’s Semiconductor Facility in Shelton, CT which contained a world-class Clean Room. Additionally, he oversaw the development of ITT facilities in California, Mexico, Arizona, and Canada.

John and Sandra’s 57-year marriage represented a symbol of the commitment and love that helped them build their lifelong bonds of family. They enjoyed numerous worldwide trips, cruises, and family vacations to Cape Cod. John was an avid sports fan who loved golfing and spent many hours cheering on his favorite New York Yankees. Upon his retirement, he began 20 beautiful years of enjoying his true passion...his family. He was often overheard telling his children and grandchildren, “No matter what happens, family comes first!” John loved watching his eight grandchildren as they grew up and cherished being a part of every important occasion in their lives. He was extremely proud of the many accomplishments his children and grandchildren made throughout his lifetime. Little things such as, making a huge pot of his homemade chicken soup or spaghetti and meatballs, and having his whole family around the table to enjoy it, brought him the most joy. His love of food and good wine was evident in the many parties he hosted, including backyard get-togethers, sometimes for over 100 family members and friends. He was the epitome of what the world considers A Great Man, A Loving Husband, A Fantastic Father, A Supportive Grandfather (Papa), and A Dear Friend.

He is survived by his loving wife Sandra, his children and grandchildren: Tracey LoStocco and her husband Michael of Stratford, CT (Michael and Katherine); John P. Miller III and his wife Mary-Margaret of Hebron, CT (John, Brandon and Patrick); Karen Miller and her husband Chris Ingram of Shelton, CT (Samantha, Molly and Megan). He is also survived by his brother Steven Miller and his wife Christine of Melbourne, Australia, many cherished nieces and nephews and a lifetime of dear friends. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Marilyn R. Marsh and Gertrude J. Baulch.

The family would like to extend their sincerest thanks to his longtime physicians Dr. Neal Fischbach and Dr. Michael Connolly. We would also like to thank the exceptional team at Bridgeport Hospital, Dr. Kavitha Gopalratnam, and the SICU nurses Ashley and Deirdra for their compassionate care of John.
