John Richard Martikainen, 75, of Trumbull, beloved husband of 48 years, Anne (Sullivan) Martikainen, died on May 6, 2026. He was born in Portland, Maine, to the late Reino and Shirley Martikainen. John grew up in Stratford, CT and graduated from Bunnell High School. He received a B.S. Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of New Haven and retired from A.P. Construction after a distinguished career as a Construction Superintendent. His many hobbies include fishing, woodworking and storytelling. John especially enjoyed researching his Finnish history as the "Family Historian". You could find John fishing, on the beer trail or relaxing on the beach at Dennis Port, Cape Cod.
In addition to his wife Anne he is survived by his children, John Martikainen, Michael Martikainen (Sonia Wojcicki), Sarah Westermeyer (Jeff) and Timothy Martikainen. Honorary members Drs. Donald (Vilma) Annicelle. Grandchildren John Reino (JR) and Olivia Martikainen, Jake and Grace Westermeyer, Michael and James Wojcicki and Eric Annicelle. Sisters are Jean Recklet, Becky Martikainen (Tom Watcke) and Karen (Kerry) (David) Driscoll and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
John would typically "sign off" of any communications to loved ones with: "SISU"... "Love You All"
Friends and family are invited to pay their respects on Friday, May 22 from 4- 7 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, May 23 from 12-3 p.m. at the Gaelic-American Club, 74 Beach Rd, Fairfield, CT. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or Smilow Pediatric Cancer Hospital at Yale New Haven.
