John Chisholm MacDonald

John Chisholm MacDonald, PhD, age 90 of Stratford, CT passed away on July 6, 2023 after a brief illness.  He was born on March 17, 1933 in Boston to the late John James and Catherine (Chisholm) MacDonald.  He was predeceased by siblings Elizabeth Tolman and Gregory MacDonald.

He earned a Bachelor and Master's degree in Chemistry from Boston College.  He served with the U.S. Army at its laboratories in Natick, MA.  He then earned a doctorate in Chemistry from the University of Virginia.  He began teaching and research at Fairfield University in 1966 and retired in 2005 as Professor Emeritus.  He was active with the American Chemical Society and tirelessly advocated for scientific research and education.

He is survived by his beloved wife Patricia Butler MacDonald; two devoted daughters Elizabeth MacDonald and Nancy MacDonald Hatcher, a dedicated son-in-law Charles Hatcher, a cherished grandson John MacDonald Hatcher, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to a memorial service at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 12, 2023 at St. Mark's Church, 500 Wigwam Lane, Stratford , CT.  Burial will be private,  In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Stratford Public Library or a library of your choice.  John did love his books!
