John Lauf Obituary

John Paul Lauf, age 86 of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on January 17th, 2018 at Yale New Haven Hospital, surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of the late Eleanor (Outhouse) Lauf. Born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, John was the youngest son of Josef and Maria (Inglar) Lauf. John proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy aboard the aircraft carrier USS Midway. He attended Temple University before moving to Trumbull, CT, where he was employed at Sikorsky Aircraft for 26 years as an inspector. John had many interests and hobbies. He enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing, hunting, target shooting, traveling, ballroom dancing, playing pool and spending time on the water. He was a member of the Ansonia Rod and Gun Club and the Naugatuck Valley Pistol League in Seymour, CT John had such a positive outlook on life and a wonderful sense of humor. He was a real "handyman" who could fix almost anything, and was always available to help, give advice or add a joke to any occasion. He also had the most amazing blue eyes and engaging smile! A loving husband, father, grandfather and companion, John's greatest enjoyment was spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. John's deep faith and kind nature were always apparent - he truly was a gentleman and a gentle man. He is survived by his children, Theresa Lauf of Fairfield, Eleanor and her husband David Macedonia of Maryland, John and his wife Debra of Monroe, son Thomas of Naugatuck, and cherished grandchildren, Eric Macedonia and his wife Jill, and Colleen Loughran. John will be deeply missed by his loving partner and dearest friend of over 24 years, Rita Mae Sabol, and all of her family. To Rita's children, their spouses and grandchildren he will always be their "Johnny Boy." John was predeceased by his brother Frank Lauf, son Joseph Lauf and granddaughter Carrie Macedonia. The family would like to thank all of the staff at Lord Chamberlain Rehabilitation Center in Stratford, CT for the dedicated care and the compassion that was given to John. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carrie Macedonia Scholarship Fund at the Maryland Institute College of Art at 1300 W. Mount Royal Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21217.
