Jane Wischow Obituary

Jane Hoffman Wischow, age 93, of Trumbull, passed away Wednesday, January 4, 2023 at St. Vincent’s Medical Center in Bridgeport. She was born Jane Elizabeth Hoffman on August 13,1929, the eldest child of the late Earl and Effie Hoffman, and was raised in West Allenhurst, New Jersey. She graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1947, where she met her future husband, Herbert “Herb” Wischow. She was a retired bookkeeper for Paint Products, and in her earlier years worked for Warnaco and D.M. Read's Department Store in Bridgeport, CT.

Jane and Herb married in 1952, and over the course of their 49 year marriage they were blessed with four children; Cathy, Herb, Leslie, and Kurt, and eight grandchildren. Jane’s children and grandchildren were her life’s pride and joy. She treasured every opportunity to spend time with her family, from presiding over family holiday get-togethers, to dinners and afternoon teas with her children, and a beloved birthday breakfast tradition with her grandchildren. In their later years, Jane and Herb enjoyed traveling together, going to Europe, Egypt, and China, enjoying shows in New York City, and attending local craft and antique fairs. Most of all, she cherished her annual trips to see her family and friends on the Jersey shore.

Jane was very active in her community. She was a longtime member of the Trumbull Women’s Club and the Long Hill Garden Club. She also volunteered for the Radio of the Blind, St. Joseph’s Manor, and was an avid supporter of the American Red Cross.

Jane was a parishioner at Long Hill United Methodist Church for over 60 years. She served on the Board of Trustees and attended their weekly Bible Study. Anyone who went to the monthly spaghetti suppers or the annual Blueberry Festival would have seen her smiling face collecting tickets or cooking in the kitchen.

She was predeceased by her husband Herbert K. Wischow, her daughter Catherine Wischow Paolozzi, her brother Robert Hoffman, and her brother and sister-in-law Ed and Carol Bolger. She is survived by her children, sons Herbert Wischow (Karen), Kurt Wischow (Laura), and daughter Leslie Wachter (Larry); eight grandchildren, Elizabeth Purcell, Robert Berry (Rachel), Livia and Laura Wachter, Eric, Susan, Maxwell and Carl Wischow; and two great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Anne Hoffman, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Saturday, January 14, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Long Hill United Methodist Church, 6358 Main St. Trumbull, CT. Interment to follow in Long Hill Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Long Hill United Methodist Church in Trumbull, CT.

Friends may pay their respects on Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the church. Arrangements in care of the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull.
