Obituary

James "Jim" Martin Valovich, age 63, of Swampscott, MA, passed away July 28, 2021, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Bridgeport, CT, son of the late John and Elsie Valovich. He was a Senior Software Engineer at Pitney Bowes for 27 years, Network Administrator at Weston Public Schools, and Computer Skills Teacher in Bedford Middle School in Westport, CT. Jim was a passionate sailor and longtime member of the Housatonic Boat Club; past Squadron Commander of the Housatonic River Sail and Power Squadron; and past Congregation President of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Trumbull, CT. He loved road trips (whether for an afternoon or an entire vacation), traveling (having visited 47 out of the 50 states), classic cars, board games, jigsaw puzzles, robotics, and playing the piano. He was also a talented woodworker. Jim had a gentle, kind soul with a big heart and an even bigger smile. He had a great sense of humor, limitless patience, and was much beloved by family, friends and colleagues. He and his brothers and lifelong friend Kenneth Del Bene were a tight knit “four musketeers”, whether working on various projects together, renovating each other’s homes, or traveling to classic car shows. Jim and his wife Robin shared one of those rare relationships that was both loving and a true partnership.

A graduate of Central High School in Bridgeport, Jim received his BS in Business Administration from Sacred Heart University and MS in Computer Science from Polytechnic Institute at NYU. He holds two United States patents related to prototypes for Pitney Bowes products.

In addition to his wife Robin Hall Valovich, Jim is also by survived his brothers David and his wife Adele Valovich of Fairfield, CT, and Stephen and his wife Cindy Valovich of Trumbull, CT, sister Nancy and her husband Jerry Owen of Bridgeport, CT; nieces and nephews David Owen and his wife Thelma, Michael Valovich and his wife Kimberleigh, Dr. Megan Valovich, and Steven Giarratani; great-nephew and nieces Lincoln Owen, Leia Owen, and Chloe Valovich; sister-in-law Ruthann Spencer; and many cousins.
