James Tierney Obituary

James Patrick Tierney, age 82, of Shelton, passed away on June 26, 2021, at the West Haven Veterans Hospital. He was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late James J. and Mary Elizabeth (Coyne) Tierney. Upon graduating from Fordham University, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army and served as an Intelligence Specialist overseas. Upon completing his service,  Jim became an independent commercial bond specialist. A kind and gentle man, loved and respected by all who knew him. His greatest joy was being surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Karin Tierney. His children James E. Tierney and his wife Allison of Wantagh, NY and Robyn Tierney and her husband Carlos Gonzalez of Stratford, CT. Also his adored grandchildren Kevin and Michael Tierney. He was also predeceased by his brother Donald E. Tierney.
Jim was so proud of his children.  He served as President of the Bronco Baseball League and never missed any if Jimmy's games, both baseball and St. Joe's football.
Anyone who knew Jim was aware that Robyn was truly "Daddy's girl".  Together, the shanigans never ended. Then came Kevin and Michael and everyone else moved down a few spaces!  Mom and Dad celebrated EVERY holiday- even alternating Tuesday would qualify!  St. Patrick's Day was a big event-an all day open house with Mom's special Irish Soda Bread and Irish Coffees.  Some people came back later in the day and a few never left at all!
You may notice from his picture that Dad was a good sport.  Mom decided that since Dad was just sitting there watching, he should be useful, so she draped him with Christmas lights. He laughed all day!
So dear to his heart were all the Doctors, nurses and caregivers at the Community Living Center, CLC, at the West Haven VA.
We especially thank Dr. C. Ruser, and on the CLC Dr. S. Lin and Dir. C.Kumar., the PT angels, Laurie, Lisa and Amy, and Doreen McGehee Wound Care Specialist and Mom's own special angel Janet Manoleas.
Jim is also survived by nieces and nephews Kathleen Tierney, Donald Tierney, Brian Kroll, Christopher Kroll and their families. Many cousins especially Eileen and Patrick .Martin and Veronica Brophy, and close friends Fr. Gene Szantyr and Kathy and Tom Steinke.
