Irene Voynick, of Trumbull, CT died of natural causes on her 85th birthday, October 22, 2021. She was born in Bridgeport, CT, daughter of the late George and Mary Voynick. She graduated in 1958 from the University of CT with a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry and worked as a research assistant at the Yale Medical School in the Department of Biochemistry.
Later in her career, she obtained a Master's degree in Computer and Information Science while at the West Haven V.A. Medical Center as a systems analyst/programmer in clinical trials.
Because of her strong concern to find cures for brain tumors, she established the Michael S. Voynick lecture Series and the Voynick visiting Research Fellowship and the Thudichum Research Fellowship at Yale Neuro-Oncology then under the direction of Joseph M. Piepmeier, M.D.
She is survived by her brother George Voynick and his wife Ellen, her sister Marianne Kaloosdian and her husband Robert; her nieces and nephews George Patrick Voynick and his wife Jahzeel Perez-Voynick, Pete Voynick and his wife Urszula, Paul Kaloosian and his partner Carl Johnson, Lori Pease and her husband Roland and Sonia Hale and her husband Brian. Irene is predeceased by her nephew Michael S. Voynick.
Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services at St. Catherine of Siena Church, Trumbull at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 with the Reverend Joseph Marcello officiating. Interment in Nichols Village Cemetery. Friends and family may pay their respects on Wednesday, October 27, 2021 from 8:30 - 9:30 a.m at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Catherine of Siena Church, 220 Shelton Rd. Trumbull, CT 06611.
