Howard Raymond Swanson, of Trumbull, CT, passed away on September 2, 2024.

Howard was born in New Haven CT on May 1, 1923 to the late Julia (Johnson) and John Swanson. His loving and devoted wife Janet Lind Swanson precedes him in death. He leaves behind his children Donna Swanson Chudy (Frank), Robert Lind Swanson (Marina) and Julie Swanson Augeri (Steve) and his cherished grandchildren; Andrew Chudy (Charlotte), David Chudy, Robert Swanson (Jean), Alyssa Swanson, Timothy Swanson (Maria), Nicholas Augeri and Alexander Augeri, and his great grandchildren Mia & Ellie Swanson, Henry & Lucy Chudy and Anthony Swanson.  A niece also survives him, Mrs. Joy Peterson of Wallingford CT.

Howard entered the US Army in 1944 and served as staff sergeant, spending 9 months in Japan at the end of WWII.
He received an AS degree from the Univ. of New Haven in 1952 from their School of Executive Development. Howard began his career as a tool & die maker, working as the plant manager for HF&M Tool Company in New Haven, Remington Electric in Bridgeport and Motorola in Phoenix AZ. He later became the manager of manufacturing engineering at Clairol in Stamford CT. In 1994 he retired from Seitz Corporation in Torrington, where he was the manager of engineering.

As a devoted member of the Salem Lutheran Church, Howard served on their Council and was a long-standing member of the choir for 35 years with his wife Janet. Together they volunteered regularly at Salem’s Food Pantry and served at the Golden Hill Community Supper for many years.

Howard was also an active member of the Trumbull Tax Payers Association and a volunteer assistant registrar of voters for a number of years. In addition, he enjoyed playing Bridge with his wife and friends, photography, golf & especially being in the company of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Everyone, especially his family, will miss this loving and kind man.

We would love to thank the wonderful care team at Spring Village of Stratford and Caring of Danbury CT for their care and support. The family would also like to thank Reverend Dr. David  Johnson Rowe from Greenfield Hill Congregational Church for his friendship and kindness during his final days.
