Gwen (Sommers) Hendrix

Oxford, CT – Gwen Dorothy Sommers Hendrix, 66 passed away on Tuesday, September 23, 2025. Born on May 22, 1959, she was the daughter of Joseph and Dorothy Sommers, and grew up in Shelton. Gwen began working at Sikorsky Aircraft in 1978 and held various positions until she moved on in 2010 to pursue her interest in art after 32 years of service. While working at Sikorsky, Gwen met Wayne Hendrix in 1986 and they were married in 1988.

Gwen loved the arts and was an accomplished fiber artist, mixed media artist and painter. She was an integral part of Metro Art Studios in Bridgeport, CT, where she helped build, and thrived in, a strong and supportive community of fellow artists. She was also an avid nature lover and took great pleasure in the diverse wildlife around her home.

Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Wayne Hendrix, her step son Jonathan, and his wife Karin. Her parents, Joseph and Dorothy Sommers, brother Joseph Sommers III and his wife Beth, sister Donna Sommers and sister Claire Loerch, along with nine nephews.

Friends and family may pay their respects on Sunday, September 28, 2025 from 2-4 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT.

 Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Lawncroft Cemetery, Fairfield, CT.
