George Paul Mengold Jr., age 79, of Southbury, CT, passed away April 25, 2023 after a short illness. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late George Paul and Agnes (Beatrice) Mengold Sr.
George grew up in Monroe, CT and graduated from Masuk High School. He loved sports and was on the cross country team, the basketball team as well as the baseball team. Baseball was his favorite. He went to college and got a degree in business from Sacred Heart University. George got married and moved to Southbury at first then lived for a few years in Middlebury before bringing his family back to Southbury where he lived there until his passing. He was seen at his kids games and coached his son’s baseball team. George was the proud founder of A &G Auto Parts in Monroe. He enjoyed fishing and it became an annual tradition to go fishing with friends each year during the first weekend when the season opened. He enjoyed rooting for the Yankees and traveling. He went to St Maarten every year and made friendships there. He enjoyed fast cars or was it he enjoyed driving real fast? He valued spending time with family and friends. He will be missed.
George is survived by his former wife Arva Mengold, his two children, Jessica Dunn and Jason Mengold, his brother Robert Mengold, his sister Sharon Kowalchik, his grandchildren Grayson Mengold, Gwendolyn Dunn and Fredrik Dunn, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his grandson Logan Murphy Mengold.
Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Friday, May 5, 2023 at 12:00 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull, CT. Interment in St. John's Cemetery, Monroe, CT. Friends may pay their respects on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until the time of service.
