George Thomas Lyon, age 90, of Middlebury, CT passed away September 27,
2020. Mr. Lyon was born in Bethel, CT to the late George and Helen Lyon.
He retired from Sikorsky Aircraft after 37 years of service as a
hydraulic test mechanic and eventually becoming the General Foreman of
the hydraulic test lab. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy as an
Aviation Structural Mechanic and aircrew member aboard a Martin P4M-1Q
Mercator (SIGINT/NAVSECGRU) with Patrol Squadron 21 (VP-21) at NAS Port
Lyautey French Morocco, NSA Naples and Cyprus (Black Ops). He loved to
hunt, fish, and white water rapid by himself in his open top Old Town
canoe. He was also an avid New York Yankees fan and birdwatcher.
He was predeceased by his first wife Catherine Brackett Lyon, his
second wife Joan Lyon, his sister Marilyn Kolb, his brother Kenneth
Lyon, and his step daughter Lori Miller.
Survivors include his sons Wayne Lyon and Mark Lyon and his wife Colleen
Casey; two sisters Ruby Schneeberger and her husband Charles and
Dorothea Went; his grandchildren Rachel and Nathaniel Lyon, his step
daughter Kathy Chartier and his step granddaughter Julia Miller and
several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services are private. Entombment in Mountain Grove Cemetery,
Bridgeport, CT.
