Frederic Breul Obituary

Frederic W. Breul, age 102 and 5 months of Trumbull, beloved husband of the late Dorothy M. Breul, passed away on Friday June 1, in his own home as he wished in the comforting presence of his beloved daughter, Judy Pedro. We take solace that he is now at peace together with his wife and dear son Bill.

Dad was born December 22, 1915 in Bridgeport to the late Frederick and Gertrude Breul. He attended Beardsley School, Harding High School class of 1933 and went on to Norwich University for 1 year, leaving to return home to help with the family business. His father’s sudden death when he was 13 had a huge effect on his life as he had to learn early the value of hard work and putting the needs of others above his own.

Dad worked at Singer Manufacturing for over 30 years as a R&D engineer, then in 1965 he and Mom successfully owned Breul’s Card Mart until 1978. He later established Kaddie-S-Mart, selling and repairing electronic golf Kaddies until just shy of his 100th birthday.

Growing up across from Beardsley Park, which back then had a golf course, he began his lifelong love of the game. He was one of the earliest members of Brownson Country Club and later Tashua Knolls. Dad had the fortune of hitting 3 holes in one, all at Brownson.

In his retirement, he and Mom greatly enjoyed golfing trips to Vermont and New Hampshire with friends and family. His other hobbies, which he continued to enjoy well into his 90’s were gardening, model trains, stamp collecting, puzzles, maintaining his yard. He also enjoyed sports, especially attending his grandson’s sporting events. Dad loved following the Oakland A’s, the Green Bay Packers, UCONN Women’s Basketball and the PGA.

Along with Mom they became a part of a handful of concerned parents who came together to established the Parents and Friends organization in 1951, now known as the Kennedy Center. This became their gift to the community of helping those less fortunate than themselves, which they did with great pride and humility. These values have been and will continue to be a part of our lives forever.

Dad was an amazing inspiration and example of a life, tho sometimes challenging, can also be well lived and fulfilling. His presence will forever be missed more than we can ever say.

Dad was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his son Bill and sister Gertrude. Loving survivors include his devoted daughter Judy Pedro and husband Tony. Dear grandsons Mark Pedro and girlfriend Jess, Gary Pedro and wife Cari and great granddaughters Raegan and Maggie Pedro who brought him so much joy and was happily awaiting the arrival of another great granddaughter in September.

In the last several years many individuals, neighbors and organizations provided help to us on our journey to keep Dad safely at home. We thank them all for their part. Our family is extremely and forever grateful, especially to wonderful, compassionate caregivers Deidre, Annemarie, Christine, Janice and Sharon, who came into our lives with reason and without whom we could not possibly have accomplished our goal. Our thanks to the Constellation Hospice Team, especially nurse Dina.

Friends and family may call Monday June 4th from 4-7 PM, at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Road, Trumbull. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to The Kennedy Center, 2440 Reservoir Avenue, Trumbull, CT 06611.
