Elwood Joseph Downey Jr. age 98, of Monroe, passed peacefully February 26, 2018 in his home. Mr. Downey was born in Bridgeport CT to the late Elwood and Mary Downey Sr. He was a retired tool and die maker for Avco Lycoming Textron Industries. Mr. Downey was a Navy veteran who served in the Pacific during WWII. He was an active union member in his earlier years and a member of the Monroe Senior Center. He enjoyed eating, gardening, story telling, carpentry and drawing. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Ludmila Theresa "Millie" Kolpak Downey. He is survived by his devoted daughters Kathleen Downey and her husband Steven Reid of Littleton, CO and Barbara Downey Capasso and her husband John of Fairfield, CT; his loving brother Roy Downey and his wife Katie of Wallingford, CT; three cherished grandchildren Beri Halouska, Dana Capasso Stivers and her wife Abby Stivers and Jay Capasso and several nieces and nephews. Friends and family are invited to attend his funeral services on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Interment in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Monroe Senior Center, 7 Fan Hill Rd.
