Eileen Rose Sappo

Eileen Rose Sappo, age 88, of Shelton, CT, passed away February 7, 2025. Eileen was born in Yonkers, NY to the late Cornelius and Abbie McCarthy. She attended Bullard-Havens High School where as a 16 year old she met the love of her life, John Sappo, commenting to her friend after being introduced to him, "I am going to marry him someday!"  Eileen and John were married for 67 years, residing in Huntington for most of that time.  Together they built a beautiful family, having two sons, Johnnie and Stephen, and one daughter, Kerry Ann.  After raising her children, Eileen worked as a teacher's aid at Kidstop and Cornerstone for many years, providing loving care until she reached the young age of 80. Eileen could be seen driving around Shelton for many years in a VW beetle,  She enjoyed gardening, boating on Lake Candlewood, and admiring birds, butterflies and the beautiful blue sky.  She loved Disney, especially "It's a Small World "; celebrating her Irish heritage; and enjoying her nightly bowl of ice cream while watching Wheel of Fortune.  A perfect day for Eileen was one shared with her family.  She will be greatly missed.

Eileen was predeceased by her beloved husband John E. Sappo, her son Johnnie Sappo and her brothers Cornelius and Jerry McCarthy.

Survivors include her devoted children Stephen Sappo, Kerry Bell and her husband Bob, her brother John (Jack) McCarthy, cherished grandchildren John, Stephanie, Christopher, Charlotte, Stephen and Kaitlyn, her black Lab Princess, grand-dog Sweetie, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family are invited to pay their respects to Eileen on March 2nd from 11 AM – 1 PM at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull, CT, with funeral services immediately following  at 1 p.m. Burial will be private at the State Veterans Cemetery, in Middletown, CT.
