Obituary

Dr. Michael Jerome Patrick Gorman, age 86, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully on 09/18/2023.  He was born in Bronx, NY to Frank and Bridget Gorman.  Michael grew up in Bridgeport and eventually settled down in Trumbull with his family.
He was predeceased by his wife, Diane Knowlton Gorman, of 60 years. In addition to his beloved wife, he leaves behind three daughters: Kathleen and husband Michael Raucci of Milford and granddaughters Kimberly, Rebecca, Allison and Jillian. Kerry and Thomas Roberts of Wallingford and grandchildren Ryan, Colin and Erin. And Kristine and Kevin Heslin of Milford and grandchildren Katelyn and Colton.
His family moved to Connecticut after WWII And he attended St. Charles School and Harding High School in Bridgeport.  His education continued at the University of Connecticut and graduated in 1958.  At UCONN, he played 4 years on the varsity soccer team and received regional and national recognition for his outstanding play.  He then went on to attend the New England College of Optometry in Boston, graduating in 1962.  He subsequently attended Boston University and received his Masters in Education.
For 50 years he owned and operated Family Vision Center in Bridgeport and Stratford before retiring in 2015.  There he led by example of hard work and service to the community, which earned him a tremendous amount of respect not only from family and employees, but also his patients, colleagues and even strangers with whom he shared their passion and interests.  In 1970 he was a founding member of the Connecticut Visual Health Center, a non-profit that provided thousands of free eye exams and glasses to area residents who did not have health insurance.  The health center continued for over 40 years and was one of his proudest contributions to those in need.
Michael loved to watch the UCONN Huskies, both the men & women play.  He was a season ticket holder and went to the Final Four many times to cheer them on.  He loved to watch horse racing and vacationed to Saratoga each year with his grandkids.  He was also a nationally ranked tennis player, making it to Nationals twice.
He loved traveling, especially the dozens of trips to his parents homeland in Ireland as well as sharing family African safari trips, numerous cities in Europe, Galapagos Islands,  China, Dubai and Russia.
He enjoyed going to breakfast with his good buddies, Bobby, Woody and Ethan with many others weekly.
