Dr. George Bernard Baehr Jr. age 95, of Trumbull, passed away January 10, 2020 in his home surrounded by his loving family. Dr. Baehr was born in New Haven, CT to the late George B. and Rose Mary Baehr Sr. He graduated from Crosby High School, Waterbury CT ('42). He was a decorated World War II US Army veteran, serving in the European Theater with the 8th Armored Infantry Battalion, 20th Armored Division. Dr. Baehr was a member of the first graduating class of Fairfield University (BA '51). He received his Master's Degree ('54) and PhD ('70) from The University of Notre Dame. He was a lifelong Professor of History, teaching at The University of Notre Dame, Michigan State University, Holy Apostle's Seminary (Cromwell, CT) and Fairfield University. Dr. Baehr was a railroad and trolley car enthusiast and historian, serving as a member of The Valley Railroad in Essex, CT and as a Motorman with the Shoreline Electric Trolley Museum, Branford, CT. He was also very active in the community serving as the 123rd District Representative in the CT General Assembly, Chairman of the Trumbull Police Commission, Chairman of the Trumbull Board of Finance, and Chairman of the Trumbull Democratic Committee. Dr. Baehr also served as a Lector at St. Theresa Church for many years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
