Donald Richard (Dick ) Bellows, age 88, of Trumbull, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by the love and presence of his cherished family.
Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, to the late Donald and Dorothy Bellows, Dick lived a life full of dedication—to his country, his community, and above all, his family. He was a proud graduate of UMASS Amherst and went on to serve his country as a Captain in the U.S. Army Reserves. Professionally, he found his calling in healthcare, retiring in 1995 after a long and respected career as Director of Respiratory Services at Bridgeport Hospital.
Dick was not only known for his professional accomplishments but also for his deep commitment to the community. He served as past president and Lieutenant Governor of the Bridgeport Kiwanis Club and was a dedicated member of the Trumbull Board of Health. He always made time to give back, whether through leadership or small acts of kindness.
Dick had a green thumb and a great love for gardening—his backyard always reflected the care and patience he gave to everything in life. He also loved to travel, explore new places, and most of all, spend time with his family. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Dick was a proud and loyal Mets fan, even through the tough seasons. His quick wit, quiet strength, and warm heart made him someone people naturally gravitated toward. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
He leaves behind his devoted wife and best friend of many years, Roberta (Southwick) Bellows; his two loving sons, Brian Bellows and his wife Brenda, and Dr. Kevin Bellows and his wife Dr. Felicia Bellows; his sister,Mona Jamieson; and his four adored grandchildren, Sarah DiGennaro and her husband Philip, Laura Bellows, Trevor Bellows, and Delaina Bellows. Dick was also blessed to welcome two cherished great-grandchildren, Donovan and Layla DiGennaro, who brought him endless joy. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews who held a special place in his heart.
He was predeceased by his sister, Joyce Keenan.
Dick’s life was a quiet example of dedication, love, and integrity. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him and in the legacy of kindness and service he leaves behind.
