Clifford R. Banthin, age 91, of Redding, CT, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2021 in his home. He was born in Bridgeport, CT to the late John Frederick and Claire Reuther Banthin and he often told stories about exploring the outdoors in Beardsley Park when he was a boy. He was a mechanical engineer having retired from Textron Lycoming after more than four decades of service. On a recent visit to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum Udvar Hazy Center, he walked along the row of jet engines on display pointing out to his grandchildren the ones he had helped to develop. Mr. Banthin was an avid outdoorsman and all of his children have inherited his love of the woods. Well into his eighties, he was impressing his family with his expert skiing. At his death, he was one of the three longest-serving members of the Milford Yacht Club, where he sailed in countless races over the years. And any visitor to his home would have seen evidence of his devotion to hunting.
Survivors include his wife Lynda (Taylor) Banthin, four children Jessica and her husband Alec Klatchko, Richard and his wife Anne Alward, David and his wife Christina Banthin and Christopher and his wife Ellen Banthin, his sister Mary Ann Wood and four grandchildren Emma, Henry, Emily and Noah, two great grandchildren Carter Rose and Pierson and several nieces and nephews. His brother, Jack Banthin, predeceased him. His marriage to Sarah Meeks ended in divorce.
