Ann Buckley Obituary

A life lived fully in faith, love, and family. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ann T. Buckley on Wednesday October 4, 2023, at her home in Juno Beach, FL with her loving family and wonderful caregiver, Nettie, by her side.  Ann was born in the Bronx, NY to the late Daniel & Anna Delaney and siblings Danny (predeceased), Mary (predeceased) and James (Pat predeceased).

Ann became a schoolteacher after completing her degrees at Ave Maria Academy and Fordham University and receiving her New York State teaching certificate.  She loved to attend CYO dances on the weekends where she met the love of her life Gene, marrying in August 1959. They moved to Smithtown where they started their family and moved to Massapequa, then San Diego and eventually settling in Trumbull,CT.

Ann leaves behind her devoted husband Gene and their children Gene (Judy) Buckley, Moira (Beau) Blair, Tara (Michael) O’Sullivan, Kerry Buckley & Daniel (Michelle) Buckley. Grandchildren Emily (Tyler) Burd, Gene (Mary Jo) Buckley, Colin Buckley, Timothy (Elizabeth) O’Sullivan, Caitlin O’Sullivan & Madeleine, Rory & Finn Buckley. Great grandchildren Jack Burd and Taylor Buckley.

Gene’s work travel took them all over the world as former President/CEO of Sikorsky Aircraft, but Ann’s favorite place to visit was Ireland. She was extraordinarily proud of her Irish heritage and loved to visit the beautiful country where her parents grew up. She was able to celebrate her 75th birthday there with family and friends.

Ann was a great friend to all and her kindness and willingness to help wherever was needed was second to none. She volunteered her time to many organizations and worked diligently to make the lives of others better; including the Ladies Guild, St. Joseph’s Manor, taught English as a Second Language and was a Eucharistic Minister at St. Catherine’s Church and St. Patrick Church (Palm Beach Gardens, FL).  She was always attending games, concerts, award ceremonies, baptisms, weddings of her children and grandchildren. And you always knew she was there, not only because she never missed any event, but because you could always hear her beautiful infectious laugh and encouragement the minute you walked into any room.

Ann also loved her golf, whether playing with Gene, or the Ladies “18 holer’s” at Brooklawn CC, Fairfield CT or Jonathan’s landing in Jupiter, FL.  In addition, Ann enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with her friends.

Her greatest joy was being amongst her family at holiday gatherings. It made her so happy when everyone was together, sitting at the table, giving Grace to God, and sharing what was going on in their lives. The laughter was always there!

Ann truly personified the sentiment of “Whenever you need me, I’ll be there, and always with great love!”   Although her favorite song was “Danny Boy”!
