Joao Carlos Sanches Calvao, age 58, of Trumbull, passed away May 4, 2017 in CT Hospice, Branford after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Chaves, Portugal to Joao Rodrigues Calvao of Portugal and the late Maria Odete Sanches. Carlos attended Southern Connecticut State University and was a credit and collections analyst. An avid soccer fan, he was extremely passionate about cheering on his hometown team Grupo Desportivo de Chaves. Survivors include his beloved wife of 20 years, Trudy Luise Karacsony Calvao; his cherished daughter Kaleigh Alexandra Calvao both of Trumbull; his mother-in-law Edna H. Karacsony of Trumbull; his uncle Clemente and his wife Marianne Sanches of Newtown; his aunt Ana and her husband Mario Rio of North Branford; additional aunts and uncles in Portugal; and many dear cousins both here and in Portugal. He was predeceased by his father-in-law Frank J. Karacsony. Friends are invited to attend his funeral services on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 5995 Main St. Trumbull. Interment in Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd.Trumbull.
