Hazel Grace Finlayson

Hazel Grace (Holroyd) Finlayson, age 95, passed away December 10, 2018 at Bridgeport Hospital. She was born August 8th, 1923 in her home in Trumbull, CT  to Grace (Finney) Holroyd and Benn Holroyd. She attended Harding High School where she met her future husband. They were married on July 4th, 1943. Hazel and her beloved husband, George E. Finlayson’s union lasted for 48 years until his passing in 1993. During their marriage she was the book keeper for his business; Tompkins and Finlayson Construction Company. After her children were grown she worked for the State of Connecticut at Platt Technical High School in Milford, CT as an Executive Assistant to the principal. Mrs. Finlayson was active in the community. She was a member of  the Shelton Senior Center, the Stratford Baldwin Center, the Ladies Auxiliary for the Germania Schwaben Seniors Club in Bridgeport, where she served as Social Secretary and the Black Rock Tappets for over 10 years. Mrs. Finlayson is survived by her two sons, George E. Finlayson and his wife Nancy, William R. Finlayson and his wife Joyce. There are 3 grandchildren, Bryce Lyon Finlayson and Jarrod  Boyce, Matthew Joseph Finlayson and his fiancé Ami Vars and Acacia Finlayson Ransom and her husband Adam. There is one cherished great granddaughter, Darynn Rae Ransom and many special nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, and husband she was predeceased by her brother Benn and her sister Florence Jones. Friends and family are invited to attend her funeral services on Wednesday at 12:00 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd. Trumbull. Interment to follow in Nichols Village Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Memorial contributions may be made to Connecticut Hospice, 100 Double Beach Road Branford, CT or the charity of one’s choice in Hazel Finlayson’s name.
