Gerard M. O'Leary, age 79, formerly of Stratford, passed away July 5, 2018 in CT Hospice. Mr. O'Leary was born in Bridgeport to the late John and Mary O'Leary. He was predeceased by his wife Josephine Riccio O'Leary. He graduated from Fairfield Preparatory School and Fairfield University. He served in the US Marine Reserves following graduation and was honored to have marched in President John F. Kennedy's inauguration. Mr. O'Leary was an avid sports fan, with an encyclopedic knowledge of Greater Bridgeport area high school sports, baseball and football history, and a passion for college basketball particularly his alma mater and his daughter's (Marist). He spent many years scouting and coaching local high school and football, most notably as an assistant coach for Harding basketball's state championship teams in the 1970s. He retired from the US postal service in 2000. Mr. O'Leary was survived by his two children Jeffrey and his wife Melanie of Stratford and Jessica Quiroga and her husband Paul of Branford; a brother-in law Rocco Riccio and his wife Patricia of New Britain; two grandchildren, Luca and Stella Quiroga; nieces and nephews including Paul, Matthew, Marc Riccio (fiance Sarah Gage). Friends are invited to attend his funeral service on Monday at St. James Church, 2070 Main St., Stratford at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in St. Michael's Cemetery Stratford. Friends may greet the family on Sunday at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd., Trumbull from 4-6 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Avenue, Staten Island, NY 10305.
