Dr. C. Duncan Yetman

July 25, 1918 ~ July 1, 2017 (age 98) 98 Years Old

    Dr. C. Duncan Yetman Sr., former Superintendent of Schools in Trumbull, CT, from 1975-1985 passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 1, 2017, at Middlebrook Farms Senior Living Community.  He was the beloved husband of the late Janet Bozenhard Yetman, who passed away in 1994.

    He was born in St. Johns, Newfoundland, Canada, on July 25, 1918, the son of Captain Charles Wesley Yetman of the British Royal Navy and E.F. May Parsons Yetman.  After his father’s death in the First World War, he immigrated in 1924 to the United States where he and his mother lived in Hartford, Connecticut.

    He graduated from Bulkeley High School in 1936.  He earned a BA from Hartford’s Trinity College in 1940 and went on to attend Yale University Divinity and graduate school, earning a master’s degree in 1947 and a PhD. In 1956.

    Duncan was a passionate and dedicated educator loved and respected by students and colleagues. In 1950, he was appointed as an English teacher at Hartford Public High School where he remained until 1973, serving as assistant principal and from 1966 until 1973 as principal.  He served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools in Old Saybrook, Connecticut from 1973-1975, and then became Headmaster of Trumbull High School in 1975.  He went on to become Trumbull’s Superintendent of School, retiring from that position in 1985.  He remained an active community member, and served 16 years as a member of the Trumbull Public Library Board of Trustees.

    He will be deeply missed by his five children and nine grandchildren; Charlotte Yetman of Cleveland Ohio, Lilian and Scott Mogle and their children Logan and Monica of Trumbull, Ct; Duncan and Diana Yetman Jr., and their children Nicholas, Jessica, and Duncan III of Arlington, VA; Elizabeth and Jeff Doolittle and their sons Benjamin and Sean of Windsor, CT; and Amy and Scott Sauyet and their children Theodore and Kayleigh of Andover, CT.

    Hours for visitation will take place at Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home in Trumbull, Thursday, July 6th, from 4-8pm.  On Friday, a funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. in the Gathering Room of Black Rock Congregational Church in Fairfield, CT, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be sent Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home for the establishment of the Dr. C. Duncan Yetman Scholarship Fund.
