Janet was born on October 7, 1932 to the late Oscar and Astrid Lind, in Hartford, CT.  She was a graduate of William Hall High School in West Hartford, and attended Larson Junior College in Hamden, CT.

Throughout her career she worked as a corporate secretary and eventually started her own word processing/graphic business.  She can best be defined by her love for her family and friends and those who loved her in return.  

She was a talented pianist and had a beautiful singing voice, which she turned into her avocation that brought her much enjoyment.  She was the first runner-up in the first Jenny Lind contest in 1948, which was part of her Swedish heritage she held dear to her heart.  In retirement she traveled throughout Connecticut with her keyboard giving concerts with folk songs of Sweden, Broadway classics and popular standards.  She joined her first church choir at the age of seven and was a devoted choir member for the next consecutive 75 years, most recently at her beloved Salem Lutheran Church in Bridgeport Connecticut for 48 years.  At Salem she participated in many activities which included the food pantry, being a past Church Council Secretary, Worship and Music Committee member and Altar Guild participant.  She loved her church and choir friends dearly.

She was an active member of the Bridgeport Art League where she took lessons in decorative art painting, an activity she immensely enjoyed, especially the camaraderie with the wonderful group of women. Janet also enjoyed playing bridge with Howard and their friends.  She was a wonderful seamstress. There didn’t seem to be anything she couldn’t do.

Her favorite times were spent with her husband, Howard, and her loving family.  She leaves behind her devoted and loving husband, Howard.  They would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary this November.  She also leaves three devoted children: Donna Swanson Chudy (Frank) of Trumbull, Robert Lind Swanson (Marina) of Trumbull, and Julie Swanson Augeri (Stephen) of Durham, CT.  

She also leaves seven cherished grandchildren: Andrew and David Chudy of Baltimore, MD, Robert Swanson (Jean) of Mahwah, NJ, Alyssa Swanson of Shelton, CT, Timothy Swanson of Providence, RI, and Nicholas and Alexander Augeri of Durham, CT.  She also leaves behind  their great granddaughter Mia Grace Swanson of Mahwah, NJ and her loving sister, Sandra MacArtney of Hinsdale, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends are invited to attend her funeral service on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home 399 White Plains Rd. Interment will follow in Nichols Village Cemetery. Friends may greet the family on Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.
