I have extremely fortunate throughout my 40 year career in public life to have met and interacted with a number of Good people - people with moral character, people of real substance, people of great compassion, people of strong commitment to high quality, people filled with love, hope, joy, charity and good will. Duncan Yetman was one of those people. He would populate my personal Mount Rushmore.
My condolences are with the family. Enjoy and be thankful for the memory.

It was so sad to learn of Dr. Yetman's passing. I was privileged to be in his honors english class in 1962-63. He was a most innovative and inspiring instructor. His professionalism, intelligence, and warmth is something I still remember after all these years. Heaven must be honored to accept him.

Condolences to all the family. What a master teacher and more importantly a compassionate, kind human being. I was in his senior English class at HPHS 59-60.He was the best teacher of my school career. He was a true inspiration and role model who took a personal interest in all his students. Without a doubt he opened up the world of literature to this inner city sports crazy kid. He was forever passing out books that were not required reading for enjoyment. I remember them so well :Pearl Buck's" The Good Earth '', William Saroyan's "The Human Comedy", Walter Van Tilburg Clark,s"The Ox Bow Incident'' and "The Track of the Cat". Great poetry in class made relevant to the rock &roll kids of the 50's : Grey's" Elegy in a Country Churchyard", Matthew Arnold's "Dover Beach", AE Housman'' To An Athlete Dying Young'. I recall my first exposure to so much more all in Doc Yetman's class almost 60 years ago. He encouraged our writing."Submit that piece to the school paper !' Without a doubt he served as a role model as I went on to college and graduate school and taught literature and history and served as a school counselor for 41 years. Thanks Doc. God Bless All!!!

I was so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Yetman.
What a wonderful teacher he was.
Loved his classroom in the old Hopkins St. building.
I was in the class of 1958 and we dedicated our year
book to him because he was so loved.

We, along with Keith and Rachael, extend our sympathy to the Yetman family. At one time, we were all part of the Grace Church family and your mom and dad were special people. I still remember your dad working at the soup kitchen and washing pots and pans with a three piece suit on! Your parents were always gracious and giving.

To all the Families of Dr. Yetman, we send our deepest sympathy for the loss of Duncan. Because we were close friends with both Janet and Duncan for many years through our church activities, Duncan was always Duncan and we had to work hard to remember that he was Dr.Yetman at Trumbull High School. We loved him and he will be missed. Sincerely, Joanne and Clark (deceased) Island

My condolences to the family and loved ones of Dr. Yetman. He was truly a gift and a monumental example of a genuine educator. His love and compassion of the profession and for his students are unmatched. He has left his mark on many of us who attended Hartford Public High School and still remember his walks down the hall, his mild manner and gregarious smile.

I was not a student in Dr. Yetman's classes, but knew him very well as a compassionate, caring teacher and friend. I graduated from HPHS in 1957, so I was privileged to have been a four year student in that very special Hopkins St building where he had his classroom. This second oldest school in the America with mahogany, cherry woods and wrought iron comprising the interior of that hallowed institution was something to appreciate, and he certainly did. Through the years when our class of '57 held its reunions, it was always a treat to have Dr. Yetman as our guest. He came more than once until his health didn't allow him to travel. He touched the hearts and mind of Many of us. He will be sorely missed. My sincere condolences to his family.
