Beatrice (Betty) A Loughran

June 16, 1930 ~ June 17, 2017 (age 87) 87 Years Old

Beatrice Anne Hennessy Loughran, age 87, of Trumbull, peacefully transitioned to heaven with family by her side on Saturday June 17th.
 
Betty was born and raised in New York. She was the proud daughter of Joseph Hennessy who was a New York City Police Officer from County Cork, Ireland and Mary Egan from County Galway, Ireland.  Betty graduated from Cathedral High School and attended Hunter College.  Betty was a beauty contest winner, Barbizon model and administrative assistant for the Port Authority of New York before working in a variety of capacities at the Stamford Government Center.
 
Betty and her husband Mike were very involved with the Family Life Bureau of the Diocese of Bridgeport as both a Pre-Cana Team Couple and later Diocesan Chair Couple.  Betty also served on several committees at St. Leo’s parish in Stamford, was a Head Start Program Volunteer and was an area Chairman of the United Way.
 
Many people remember Betty as a prolific campaigner and leader of several very successful “Get Out the Vote” campaigns.  She was a long time member of the Stamford Democratic City Committee and set records in voter participation as well as margin of victory. 
 
Betty is survived by three daughters and three sons: Mary Schmidt and her sons Kevin and Kyle, Theresa Garabedian and her husband Dave and son Stephen, Monica Welch and her husband John and sons Sean and Daniel and daughter Erin, Joseph and his wife Polly and daughter Meg and son J.P., Michael and his daughter Colleen, Patrick and his wife Bobbi and daughter Tierney and son Patrick Jr., a sister Frances Gable and many nieces and nephews that she cherished. Betty was pre-deceased by her sisters Eileen Griffey and Mary Gizerian. An avid animal lover, she greatly enjoyed time speny with her faithful canine companion, Sandy. 
 
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Saint Joseph Manor and the Vitas Hospice team for their amazing devotion to Betty’s care.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, P.O. Box 1000 Dept 142 Memphis, TN. 

 Friends are invited to attend her funeral services on Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen's Church, 6948 Main St. Trumbull. Interment to follow in St. John's Cemetery Camp Ave. Darien.  Friends may call on Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. at the Cyril F. Mullins Funeral Home, 399 White Plains Rd.  Trumbull.
